This is Step 4 of the 5 Climate Action Project Assignments in which you will read, research, simulate, write, and evaluate. You will again use the En-ROADS simulation model (developed by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative, climateinteractive.org (Links to an external site.))
In Step 1, you discussed different actions that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gases based on the En-ROADS simulation model’s categories. In Step 2, you created a specific policy proposal for one climate action. In Step 3, you and your classmates explored how different actions at different levels of government could be used together.
Now you will create your own Climate Action Policy and evaluate the effectiveness of using different policies in combination to mitigate climate change impacts at any level of government, or combination, and propose specific public policies that would change society’s behavior to achieve the global consensus goal of keeping warming below 2C.
Section 1: Policy Formulation: Combine 3 or more actions in the En-ROADS simulator (Links to an external site.) and describe the basic characteristics of the policies you formulate:
1. Provide a short, memorable name for your plan
2. Paste a screenshot of the main En-ROADS screen showing your results (see example below)
3. Present bullet points summarizing your main policies and outcomes. Include:
The level of government that enacts this policy
Who and/or what will be regulated
Policy tool used (use one of the policy tools discussed in Week 4 and beyond)
How the policy tool is implemented (how to set a pollution control standard, how to set a tax rate, etc.)
4. Paste the text from Actions & Outcomes to document all the assumptions and policy settings you choose in your scenario. Access the Actions & Outcomes feature from the View menu.
5. Paste the URL from the Copy scenario link icon found on the main tool bar
6. Optional – You may choose to share screenshots of up to three specific graphs that caught your attention and are worth noting. For each graph you share, please add a brief note about why.

Environment. To what extent might your proposals address the climate problem and mitigate other environmental challenges? To what extent might your proposals cause or worsen other environmental problems?
Realism without cynicism. What would it take for your proposal to be realized? What barriers might arise in the implementation of your proposals, and how might they be addressed?
Guidelines
1000-1200 words required with specified images, correct grammar, spelling, academic writing style, any standard citation style acceptable. Write, then revise until you have included the essential information in a clear and concise piece of writing.:
Section 2: Policy Evaluation (500-800 words). Consider the consequences of adopting your policies along the following dimensions:
Climate. How well do you think your proposal does regarding meeting the Paris climate goals? If not well, is this acceptable to you? Why?
Economy. If the world followed your recommendations, how would the economy be different in 2030? In what ways better? In what ways worse?
