This 1300 word synthesis essay/ paper is basically for me to submit to an online learning platform to gain credits. Ive passed all other requirements and the essay is the only pending one. Thanks and below is the background followed by the instructions that i have been given. Ive put in as much details of the requirement as possible. if any questions, please feel free to ask.
BACKGROUND:
The 2 art forms/works i have chosen to write about are The Luxor temple (ancient Egypt) and comparing and contrasting it with The Parthenon (ancient Greece) as they were covered in my study.com Art 103 (Western art 1) course. this is to be covered from an Art, Architecture and History perspective. But with more focus on the Art aspect without getting too detailed. The main point is to find the similarities and differences between the 2 civilizations in their expression of their sculptures, building architectures, their purpose and their overall beliefs. For the SOURCES, please use online sources (primary and/or secondary) because if i were to write this myself i personally wouldn’t have the time to use physical books, libraries etc as a source, at this point of time.
Also, I have uploaded a rough draft of what i wrote earlier just for a writing style guide and basic guide/ reference on the features i covered. although i realized my structure was completely off. Feel free to cover any more facts and art features you see fit. I personally used a lot of .org and .edu websites but thats all i had time for. Also for a 1300 pg. essay I do not know how many citations and sources would normally be required. I’m assuming at least 30 or more citations and maybe 15 sources but i will leave that to you to follow the norms. Notes and Bibliography style was what i was asked to follow. Also, if you need to have sub heads in the body please feel free.
INSTRUCTIONS:
For this assignment, you must select two works (Luxor temple and Parthenon) from different periods and cultures across the course. Your must include a cohesive and defendable thesis that compares and contrasts each work. Additionally, you must consider the following questions as you develop your essay:
Description: In your essay, you must describe each work to your reader (assuming they’ve never seen these objects before), specifically noting the formal features (color, shape, texture, scale etc) that make it unique.
Era: To what culture and/or time period is this work associated? How do we know this? If we discovered this work for the first time and didn’t already know its origin, what clues can we take from the work that would help us connect it to this era?
Style: How would we describe this work of art? How was it made? Use the terminology covered in this course (from study.com, basic art terminology) to accurately discuss the technical materials and methods used in the work’s creation.
Message/Meaning: Why was this work created? How did it function? What was it to communicate to the viewer? What aspect of culture and history was it responding to at the time of its creation?
Comparison/Contrast: By looking at these two works together, what concluding observation can we make? Do they showcase the change of art over time, and/or do they illustrate the continuity of traditions? What is the significance of their similarities and differences, and what renders both of these works valuable as tested by time? In either case, provide evidence to support your claim.
