1. Carl Cohen claims that animals have no rights because they lack the capacity for moral judgment. (see the enclosed handout on the Lychee Dog festival). Carefully explain Cohens view on animal rights. Then critically consider whether he is correct. Finally, is the Lychee Dog eating festival permissible on his view.
2. Island nations such as Kiribati have great difficulty responding to climate change in ways that Canada does not. And Canada grew its industry without the concerns of climate change. What are the various challenges that they face in responding to climate change and does Canada have an obligation to help nations such as Kiribati respond to climate change (see enclosed Kiribati article). If so, whats the argument for such a view (Kant’s Universal Law Formation and Formation of Humanity). If not, whats the argument against such a view?
