Thesis Progress Assignment #2 Assignment Description: For this assignment you will submit the first two sections of your thesis paper (for a full description of the thesis project click here: Senior Thesis Description.docx). This first part will include the Introduction & the Literature Review. This will be a polished first draft of these two sections and should meet the minimum requirement listed below for a passing grade:
Engagement with feedback on proposal: The writing demonstrates engagement with instructor feedback provided on the proposal, it clearly shows that the project is becoming more focused, showing a stronger research question and set of multi-disciplinary interlocutors.
Polish: While this is a first draft of part I– and your arguments and writing are expected to evolve & change as we move along in the research/writing/revising process–to receive a passing grade, your first draft of Part I should be well-written and polished.
Engagement with past research: While the sources may change in the final thesis submission, the literature review for this draft should engage with at least 10 peer-reviewed sources that clearly relate to the topic at hand. All sources should be referred to and cited appropriately (including complete MLA/APA in-text citations & references).
Formatting: 12-point font, Times New Roman, Double Spaced, standard 1-inch margins.
Length: Making up about 1/3 of your paper, Part I should be roughly between 1,000-1,200 words (4-5 pages double-spaced).
Background
As listed in the full thesis assignment description linked above, below is blurb describing what the introduction & literature review sections are and what their purpose is.
Introduction: An effective introduction usually does three things: 1) introduces the topic to the reader in a way that catches their attention, 2) states the main argument of the paper, and 3) offers a preview of whats ahead (often called a roadmap).
A brief introduction to the topic
A thesis statement (your argument)
A roadmap for your paper
Literature Review/Background: The purpose of this section is to summarize what previous research has found on your topic. The background you curate for your paper should 1) be directly relevant to your research question/topic and 2) explicitly evidence engagement with peer-reviewed research in at least two different disciplines/areas of study (this is an Integrated Studies senior thesis paper after all!)
Explicit explanation of the 2 disciplines/areas of study the paper engages with.
Thorough background of past research on this topic in these two areas/disciplines
Engagement with at least 10 peer-reviewed sources on the topic, distributed between the different disciplines/chosen areas of study.
Ive already completed my thesis proposal and got a 100%. I started to complete this assignment (thesis progress#2) and only completed the first page, or part 1. I will attach both my thesis proposal and page 1 of this assignment so you can complete it!
Ive listed the sources needed to be used in the thesis proposal paper. The instructions for thesis progress #2 are listed above.
