What does the object look like (and/or sound or feel like, if it uses those senses as well)? Is it big, small, red, blue, blurry, angular, smooth, rough? Some of the issues to consider include scale, color, light, dark, line, mass, surface texture. What are the qualities of these elements in your particular art object? Which are emphasized? And how do they work together to form a composition or order? How would you describe that overall order or form? Does the object look heavily textured? Handmade? Smooth and industrial? It is important to remember that this is an analysis and not a list. The difference between an analysis and a list of physical characteristics is that the analysis makes some kind of argument about the ultimate effect of the object, or the essence of the objects formal organizing principle.

Please make sure that your paper includes these three elements:
1) Description. Start by visually describing your work. What does it look like? What about the colors and shapes? Try to choose active and specific words to describe the visual elements of the work.
2) Relationships. After analyzing the individual elements, discuss how they work together in different ways, which might include harmony, contrast, tension, as well as subtle effects of color and texture.
3) Contextualization. Now let’s look at the work as a whole. How does the relationship between visual elements build the overall composition and inform the meaning of the work?
