We will be analyzing a study on diabetes amongst the latinx populations and its effect on life expectancy. Using the health belief model we can explore how personal beliefs affect their behavior. Community theory model may explain why type two diabetes is very prevalent in the hispanic/latinx community. Culture plays a huge role influencing behavior, food habits, religious beliefs, and values. We believe that the food that many people within the latinx/hispanic consume, play a contributing factor in diabetes being very rampant in this community.

For this report, students will work in teams to identify an adverse health behavior which has negative impact on public health (see Grading Rubric below). Subsequently, an appropriate health behavior theory will be selected to describe the existence and persistence of the health behavior, including synthesis of major theoretical constructs. Students will suggest possible solutions to reducing the adverse health behavior. Individual students will submit an Individual Student Work Hours Log File that details the number of hours that they devoted to the project. More information about this major assignment will be provided in class.
