After spending some time in the film and ad music industry, working for companies such as Vice, Nike, and Slam magazine, and having films shown at Cannes and works performed at the LA Natural History museum, I have decided to go back to grad school in order to develop my craft further and have a space to work on projects.
Goals for attending: I would like to apply my knowledge of modular synthesis to the symphonic orchestra and other classical instruments, feeding the acoustic instruments through a eurorack in order to augment the various traditionally classical forms of expression. I also plan to complete a film on income and racial inequality, similar to Koyaanisqatsi, in which the city of LA will be filmed from the north, more opulent side to the south, poorer side, using a combination of drone footage, car footage, and stabilized street view camera work. In addition to this, I would like to continue to learn and perfect the skill of orchestration. I desire to tell the stories of people like me, the poor citizens of the inner city, through contemporary classical music.
I’d like to study under andrew norman and ted hearne, and continue to learn extended techniques for the orchestra.
Honestly all of this is so niche and specific and personal, I’m really just looking for the skeleton structure of a statement of purpose that applies the main arguments of why i want to attend, and then I can fill out the rest in my own wording and customize it for each school.
