Title: Urgent reform for protection of temporary migrant workers from a pandemic
COVID-19 has caused many of my former colleagues and their friends who are employed in high-risk areas to lose their jobs and be asked to leave within a short period of time as a direct result of the epidemic. The majority of them do not qualify for unemployment insurance, which provided assistance to millions of U.S. workers during this pandemic, and some are still unemployed today. From restaurants to farms, migrants provide vital labor to keep our societies afloat. Recognizing their need to reconcile protecting their living and respecting individual rights.
Temporary migrants should be protected from staying in the United States in the event of a pandemic through policies that protect them. Furthermore, new policy reforms will allow them to receive unemployment benefits during pandemics, as well as find new jobs, maintain their visa status, and receive financial assistance.

Once you have begun your research project, a research proposal can help you to remain on track — and can also remind you why you started this project in the first place! Researchers very often begin to lose heart about two-thirds of the way into a project when their research hits a snag or when they are having problems developing a thesis, organizing the ideas, or actually starting to write. Rereading the initial research proposal, especially “Significance” can re-energize the project or help the researcher to refocus in an effective manner.
Proposal Format. Answer each question in a few sentences/paragraphs.
1. What is your research question? What is your thesis (how do you plan on answering your research question)?
2. What is the significance of your study? How is your paper different from previously published material on this subject? What makes it unique? (i.e. what specific issues will your paper raise that previous essays have not?)
3. Who is your intended audience? What do you need to explain to this audience to help them understand this topic?
4. What words must you define so that my audience better understands your subject?
5. Describe the problems you expect to encounter and how you hope to solve them. For example, you may have difficulty finding certain sources, texts may be unavailable, or you are having difficulty addressing the counterargument, etc.
6. Give your project a working title.

This week, instead of a traditional reading response, you’ll do some research on a topic you might want to pursue for the final research paper. This assignment asks you to find a credible source related to your topic, and then answer the following questions:
Write the article title and author’s name. Then: Answer the questions.
1. Agree or disagree with a statement in the text and give reasons for your agreement or disagreement.
2. Draw attention to what the author has neglected to say about the topic.
3. Illustrate the text with a personal example, incident, scenario, or anecdote, or embellish the authors point with a vivid image, metaphor, or example.
4. Compare one of the authors points with your own prior knowledge of the topic or with your own or others experiences (validate one of the authors points with an example).
5. Criticize a point in the text.
6. Make a judgment about the relevance of a statement that the author has made.
