Book Reviews: Students will read the required books (see the list above) and learn to write book reviews in the process. Reviews will be graded on clarity, concise writing, and command of content. Reviews should follow criteria below. All book reviews are due the last week of class. 25 points. Guidelines for Book Review (from the Alaska Historical Societys journal, Alaska History) Book reviews should be approximately 600 words. A book review is usually one-part introduction to the book, the author, and the field; one-part summary of the book; and one-part analysis and evaluation. If quotes are used, the reviewer should cite the quotation with page numbers in parentheses. If reference is made to any other work, the author’s name, full book title, and parenthetical year of publication should appear in the text. Review headings should contain the author’s full name, complete title of the book, the place of publication, the publisher’s name, the year of publication, the number of pages (roman and Arabic numerals), the front and back matter and illustrations, the price, and type of binding.
