The Loving Generation

For your first paper, you will watch the following four clips from the Online Documentary The Loving Generation. You will use these clips to elaborate on a sociological topic of your choice we have thus far discussed in class (chapters 1-4). You might need to review some of the chapters as a reminder of what you have thus far learned.

As you watch the clips, take note of things the interviewees say that reminds you of what we have thus far discussed in class. Examples can be ascribed status, front stage/backstage, media representation, socialization, culture

Settle on a sociological topic. Use examples from the clips to discuss and elaborate on your topic. While writing your paper think about your own racial background. Is it simple? Is it complicated? What social and outside forces make this so? For example, as a white person why am I not paranoid when interacting with law enforcement? ( I am black)

Your paper should still have an introduction with a thesis statement. Your supporting paragraphs can function as a way to organize your examples and your thoughts. Be sure to write a conclusion to wrap up your paper!

Total length: 3-5 pages double spaced. When using examples from the clips, be sure to cite which episode you are referring to, and include a time stamp. For example: Rebecca Walker was so happy to see Obamas picture with his white mother (104, 1:10)
