Guidelines
Paper must be typed, double-spaced, and submitted as .docx or .pdf.
I strongly recommend a target of around 3-4 pages, though this is not a requirement as long as
rubric items are satisfied
Topic must be approved (Lab 4 assignment must be graded in order for this paper to be graded)
Lab 8, which is an outline and list of references, also must be submitted and approved in order for
this paper to be graded
Any citation format may be used, but you must support your summary with at least three references
Proof-read to minimize typos, grammatical errors, run-on/incomplete sentences, etc.
Organize the paper to transition from one idea to the next.
Structure
The paper itself will need to include two major components: summary of information, and analysis of
this information (along with an introduction and conclusion paragraph). Depending on your topic, this
can take a variety of forms, but in general your paper should have the following structure:
Introduction (1 paragraph): Overview of topic, why you have selected it, and setting up remaining
paragraphs.
Summary (2-4 paragraphs): Roughly half of your paper will need to be an objective summary of
information (evidence, history, etc.) relevant to your topic. This must be in your own words, and
include citations
Analysis (2-4 paragraphs) : The other major component is your (subjective) analysis of this
information. This may include:
o Making connections between sub-topics;
o Providing (well-reasoned) opinions on the information you summarized;
o Or other methods of analysis similar to this
Conclusion (1 paragraph): Summary of the presented information and concluding thoughts
