In this essay you will argue your point of view on a controversial issue. This essay has a structured order that you must follow in order to show your ability to argue against arguments that your opposition might bring up. See the Critical Essay Grading Guide for the paragraph outline for this essay.
The successful essay will include the following:
1) A clear and concise thesis statement that informs your audience of your argument; this must be a should statement
2) Unbiased details about your topic, the opposition and its argument, and your argument
3) An argument of your own that indubitably defeats the oppositions argument
4) Two quotation sandwiches: one in each of the opposition and your opinion paragraphs (6 points each)
5) A clear organization of thoughts and ideas
6) Relatively few grammatical and spelling errors
7) Successful exemplification of essay structure, including transition sentences
8) Works Cited page
