The Big Five Factors in Personality

When writing your paper, please try to think outside of the box. Although this is a research paper, you should try to compare and contrast material you present and use critical thinking and analysis rather than presenting facts that you find in the text or online.

I prefer to have you choose your topic which falls within the boundaries of the course content. It is wise to review your text and do a library database search of topics that interest you, but please stay within the framework of the course.

DO NOT USE PAPERS THAT HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED IN OTHER COURSES! THIS IS HIGHLY UNETHICAL AND COULD RESULT IN a 0 GRADE.

Use APA style; refer to APA publication manual. I have enclosed sample APA papers for you to refer to so you can see how APA style looks when completed. Please dont try to create your own style in the formatting, and do not use online APA templates other than the one I provided for you. DO NOT TRY TO WRITE ON A TEMPLATE, just create your own template which can be used in other courses.

Use 12 pt font, Times New Roman, double spaced. No space between paragraphs nor between headings and text.

Refer to APA Publication Manual t 6th Ed to see how to set up your headings. See Levels of Headings. I prefer you are liberal with headings, so papers flow better and identify parts of the paper. You should have headings for Abstract, Introduction, Conclusion and References (all centered). The other headings may be bold, placed to the left, etc, depending on how they fall in the hierarchy of headings. Again, see Levels of Headings to help with headings.

Please use scholarly references such as peer reviewed research articles, and credible online sources. No Wikipedia or similar Internet sites are acceptable. If you do use online sites, they should be scholarly and current, end in .gov, .org, or .edu. Avoid sites that end in .com. Books and texts are acceptable as long as you only use two or three. Seminal or classic works are acceptable for academic writing. I prefer the dates of publication be no older than 10 years, ideally within 5 years. I am not a fan of online academic aid such as Kahn Academy, Simply Psychology, or similar sites.

Use in-text citations LIBERALLY. Almost every point you make in which you received information from another author should be cited. It is not unusual

to see 3-4 citations in one paragraph. In academic writing you MUST cite everything you write that is someone elses idea.

Only put page numbers in citations when you cite a quote, BUT THIS SHOULD BE RARELY DONE, OR NOT AT ALL. Refer to APA manual if you use a long quote, so it can be written as a block quote.

Avoid Passive Voice as much as possible. If you are not sure what this means, please refer to the APA Publication Manual 6th or check Purdue Owl Writing Center.

There is no set number of pages for your paper, but if you must ask, I would say between 8-15 pages, not including cover page, abstract, or reference page.

PLEASE avoid slang, colloquialism, and jargon unless this is absolutely needed in your paper; you should write as formally as you can. Avoid redundancy, fancy words, or fluff. Please get to the point.

Have someone you know who is adept in details to proofread your work. It is easy to misspell words and use improper grammar. You may also contact our university writing center to help you with your paper.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: DO NOT PLAGIARIZE. If you are unclear what this means, please review your university writing center policies. Basically, you should not use more than a string of 3-4 words used by another author. ALWAYS interpret what authors are saying and use your own words.
