The 3D Printed Product Demand Chain

This project concept is focused on the development of a platform for supporting the demand chain for custom products using 3D printing as a production technology. 3D printed objects have uncertain mechanical properties which will need to be modelled for different additive manufacturing methods. When a product design is manufactured, it is essential that non-destructive tests can be completed to ensure that the product is compliant with its design intent. A process control system will need to be developed that demonstrates compliance within a distributed manufacturing demand chain. The economic process alternatives need to be considered.
