SWOT Analysis (2 PAGES)
The first part of the SWOT analysis should follow Chapter 4 in the textbook. (CHAPTER 4 IS ATTACHED IN FILES)
Within this analysis, you will identify and describe the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing your library/organization.
SELECTED LIBRARY IS YALE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
You should identify a minimum of three items for each area (three strengths, three weaknesses, three opportunities, and three threats). One of your items should be related to supporting diverse populations (whether this fits under strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, or threats will depend on your selected library).
When describing each item, be sure to indicate why the item qualifies as a strength, weakness, opportunity or threat. For example, simply stating “One strength of the library is a friendly staff” does not say enough to support inclusion as a strength. Why is a friendly staff a strength of the library? Be sure to add that additional information: “One strength of the library is a friendly staff, which makes patrons feel the library is a safe place for them to spend time.”
After identifying and describing your items, create one paragraph that offers recommendations for the library based on each area. You should have at least one recommendation for each section (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat). For example, if one of the strengths identified for your library is a guaranteed increase in funding every year, then your suggestion might be related to how your library could best put the additional funding to use. After analyzing your library and creating your recommendations, also create a concluding paragraph that summarizes your overall analysis (this is a full summary of the items identified in each section and the recommendations – think of it as an annotation for your analysis).
This process should be based on your individual analysis; however, you can and should try to communicate and collaborate with individuals in the library and organization to develop the plan if possible. Remember that this may be a busy or difficult time for those working in the library, and they may not be able to accommodate your request for assistance. You can rely on other resources to identify the items included in your analysis.
SWOT Chart (1 PAGE)
After creating your SWOT analysis, you will need to create a matching chart. The structure of your chart is up to you, though it is recommended that you use the chart provided in the course text or the examples from the course resources. You should include all items identified in your analysis within your chart, though do not include them verbatim. You want to include a shortened version in your chart – bullet points are allowed and encouraged.
Format
Please follow APA for the entire document, including title page and citations.
Use 12-point font, 1-in margins, and double-space throughout.
Your paper should be a minimum of 2-pages, not including title page, chart, or references.
Your chart should (in theory) fit on one page.
