Specific Directions
The paper should be no longer than 5 pages including a title page (no abstract), body and references. Follow the outlined format below and use the highlighted words as subheadings for each section.
Title page – includes paper title, your name, West Chester University and date.
Body – includes the following:
Introduction – briefly introduce your selected ANA position statement, describing its associated ethical dilemma for the public and/or healthcare providers.
Bioethical principles – using the bioethical principles that have been discussed throughout assigned and supplemental readings, determine how this policy meets current ethical standards of care within the nursing profession. You may want to provide professional nursing examples (case studies) to demonstrate this relationship. Use correct ethics terminology while discussing your position statement and ethical dilemma.
Legislative influence – describe how your selected position statement could be affected by the legislative process. What can nurses do to influence change at the state and federal legislative levels? Has the ANA lobbied for legislation to support your selected position statement? If yes, describe what was done, and if not, describe what could be done.
Conclusion – describe why your selected position statement is important to ethical practice within the nursing profession. Consider what steps should be taken to ensure this policy continues to support ethical nursing practice.
References – include a reference page, making sure to cite all references in the body of your paper.
