The Prompt:
Now that you have read passages from The Picture of Dorian Gray and Frankenstein, write a four-paragraph essay in which you identify a theme that is similar in both passages and analyze how each author uses literary devices, or elements, or techniques in the passages in order to develop a theme.

1) When discussing a theme, dont use the word theme. Just tell us what it is.
Ex: Instead of: In Pride and Prejudice the author Jane Austen uses X, Y, and Z to discuss the theme of social class.
Use this: In Pride and Prejudice the author Jane Austen uses X, Y, and Z to discuss social class.
2) You must provide three pieces of evidence per paragraph. Do not use entire quotes or ellipses. Take snippets of what is most important within the quote and paraphrase.
3) Be sure to provide proper MLA citation for each piece of evidence you use, even when it is paraphrased. Ex: (Austen 19)
4) Each piece of evidence must have an analysis. NO EXCEPTIONS.
