Self-Reflection

1. Consider an event in your family’s life (this can range from a normative event like the birth of a child to a crisis or stressor, like the loss of a family member to death). Apply social work theories to this life event.
2. Briefly describe the event and how was the reaction of the family members
3. Identify the strengths displayed by your family members during this event
4. Identify the cultural influences that affected your family’s experience of the event
5. Consider the ways your family may have been strengthened by this event, and mention what systems were involved or affected (eg extended family, neighbors, religious community, group membership, medical and legal systems, etc).
6. Describe the interaction of various systems using concepts from systems theory.
7. From the perspective of social work, Ecosystem theory helps to understand how human beings develop in the environment by shaping it and being in turn molded by it; and how the interactions between individuals, families, groups and communities between them and with other entities allow complex activities to be carried out in the social environment (Birkenmaier, Berg-Weger, & Dewees).
8. Attach an ecomap as an appendix to the task
9. Write your reflection in a Word document containing between 500 to 700 words following the APA formatting rules. If you are going to use reading material and / or videos that are not listed in the resources, please cite your references.
10. Upload the document to this task as an attachment.
