As we begin this semester discussing Race in modern times I want you to think about how people perceive race (symbolic) as well as experience it . With the election of Obama to office the Tokenistic Fallacy began to take hold as a method of pushing the false narrative that we’re post-racial. What does this fallacy say and how could it be used to push the idea that our society is no longer racist? Does Childish’s video speak to our reality today with respect to race or under/over state it? As this idea gains wider traction and support, how does it affect perceptions of issues facing BIPOC such as housing, media representation, and religious practices? Leading from this , what are the institutional and individual implications of perceiving we’re no longer a racist sociecixty and what does it mean for Whiteness (racial domination normalized)?
