What does Mill mean by “it is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be a Socrates dissatisfied than a food satisfied?” Do you agree? Why?
In this quote, Mill is asserting that it is better to be a dissatisfied human, who has knowledge of the greater picture, than a satisfied pig, who is only satisfied because of its limited perspective. I personally disagree with this statement, although I believe it is not the right or wrong answer. This may be because I have a different definition of better than Mill. I disagree because I believe that ignorance is bliss. I also believe that bliss is better than anxiety, stress, or unhappiness, even at the expense of lessened knowledge. I understand that many would not share this viewpoint, but it is what I would prefer.
