Goal:We define analysis as the close reading of a text or close evaluation of other content. I wantyou all to take a written-work (short story, scholarly article, book etc.) or media (movie, song,commercial, music video etc.) and do the following in an analysis essay:Things to include:1. Include a: Rhetorical, Critique of Ideas, and Reflection based analysis.2. Provide background on this work. What is the context/background of the piece? Who is the creator (author, artist, etc.)? How does the author do this? Do they use pathos, ethos, logos, and other rhetorical strategies? Organization: Dont use the 5-paragraph essay formatting, as this will be a bit longer than five paragraphs. You will have an introduction (where you will likely introduce and explain the text you choose to analyze), body paragraphs (where you will likely use examples to describe the rhetorical situation and support your claim), and a conclusion (where you will likely restate your claim about the rhetorical effectiveness of your chosen work.) You will also have a thesis statement at the end of your introduction. This thesis statement should include your claim (the authors purpose or idea thats trying to be conveyed), and your reasons why. Remember that a thesis for this kind of paper is meant to bring forward a fresh idea or new perspective. I strongly recommend outlining your paper. This will help you stay on track. Stipulations and Cautions: Creative works are fine, but make sure that theres enough content to analyze. You can NOT use someone elses analysis. Use a direct/primary source. By this I mean, use the song or story directly, not someone elses analysis of it. Do NOT make the bulk of your assignment your introduction/context. The majority of your paper should be about your analysis and presentation of your original ideas. Format: 3-5 Pages DOUBLE spaced. 3 FULL pages or 720 words. Do NOT go over 5 (1200-word max) Submit your paper as a Microsoft Word Document (do not submit the online version link) or PDF. Pages also works. Do NOT submit Google Docs or SharePoint links. MLA formatting (12 pt. Times New Roman Font, 1-inch margins, header, heading, title)
