Project management in practice

You are a project manager for a new local rail network in Coventry which serves the city centre of Coventry (approximately 5 square miles). You will oversee the planning and development of the network which is designed for commuters and students. The rail network will be powered by electricity only as part of a new ‘green new deal’ package of infrastructure upgrades in Coventry.

You have been appointed as a Project Manager to oversee the planning and development of this project using relevant academic literature, You are to:

1. Assess the feasibility of the project, drawing on appropriate project management theory and frameworks;
2. Prepare an initial plan that includes the project scope, the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Gantt chart, considering a minimum of 30 different tasks and 4 milestones;
3. Analyse the main stakeholders and provide recommendations on how these stakeholders should be managed to maximise the chance of achieving the projects objectives;
4. Identify unexpected events that may have a positive or negative impact on the project objectives.
5. Minimum 30 academic sources, e.g., monographs, academic articles, book chapters, editions.
