C.J., age 17, is on his high school swim team. He presents with sudden onset of right ear pain that worsens at night. He says that the pain intensifies when he touches his ear and that he has a feeling of fullness in the ear. On examination, the auditory canal is edematous and erythematous, with yellow crusting. His temperature is 97.8F, and his TM is pearly gray with landmarks intact. His diagnosis is otitis externa.

Case 2: V.S.

V.S., age 25, presents with “itchy eyes.” He reports itching, burning, and watery discharge in both eyes. He has a history of allergic rhinitis and takes Zyrtec regularly for this. He denies the possibility of a foreign body and denies pain. On physical examination, he has injected conjunctiva and clear discharge bilaterally. There is no adenopathy and no changes in visual acuity. His vision is 20/20 in both eyes. He has no drug allergies or other medical history aside from allergic rhinitis. His diagnosis is allergic conjunctivitis:
