Research Proposal Summary
In our study we hypothesize that students in the Graduate School of Social work who define themselves care givers (for example mothers, fathers, single parent households, caretaker of elderly or ill parent) have a higher level of satisfaction with having classes online, both synchronous and asynchronous, than going to in-person classes. Our conceptual definition for ‘satisfaction’ is a feeling of competence towards classes and coursework load. We believe that the increased burden of having to commute to class and needing/paying for childcare, in addition to the required course load, are potential factors that could lead to a lower level of satisfaction for in-person classes. When understanding student care takers’ level of satisfaction (feeling of competence towards classes and course load) we must recognize the variable of one’s perceived ability to cope with workload and life demands.

Assignment Instructions:
Create part 1 of a literature review ensuring that the review is well cited. For this part of the literature review you will solely focus on satisfaction and how online education can improve a caretaker student’s overall satisfaction.
1. Discuss how overall student satisfaction can impact a student’s performance in grad school
• Be sure to focus in on how a caretaker student’s satisfaction can support performance especially in feeling competent and managing coursework load. (One – two paragraphs)
2. Discuss how online education can mitigate many of the barriers that caretaker student’s face with in person instruction (eg no traveling time, allows caregivers to live near family that might help with childcare, allows caregivers more time to work).
• There is no need to emphasize on the barriers but rather how online education (asynchronous and synchronous) help alleviate those barriers.
