Normal distribution in Nursing

Do a little research online to find a variable that is relevant to the field of nursing (e.g., patient height, length of pregnancy) and satisfies all of the following:

It describes a human characteristic.
It is continuous.
It is approximately normally distributed.
It is not mentioned in this weeks lessons or recommended textbook reading.
Its mean and standard deviation are provided in your reference.
Exercises
Now, complete the following in a Word document:

Cite your reference using APA style.
State precisely what the variable is, what population it pertains to, and its mean and standard deviation.
In 24 sentences, explain what you think makes this variable normally distributed. (You may want to revisit this video (Links to an external site.).)
Would you say that the standard deviation for this variable is large, small, or somewhere in the middle? Is this what you would have expected for the variable you chose? Why or why not?
Use Excel to find the following values in your variables distribution (and please write down the command you entered into Excel):
First and third quartiles
13th percentile
The value that cuts off the lowest 2% of the population
The value that cuts off the highest 30% of the population
Choose two values within your distribution. Use Excel to find the percentage of people with a value between those two (and please write down the command you entered into Excel).
Change the population for your variable in a way that you believe will change the shape of the distribution. For instance, if your population was originally patients with colon cancer you could change it to patients over the age of 65 with colon cancer. Then answer the following:
What is the new population you are considering?
Will the mean of the distribution for the new population be larger, smaller, or about the same as that of the old population? Why?
Will the standard deviation of the distribution for the new population be larger, smaller, or about the same as that of the old population? Why?
