Application of Waves Essay (Criterion D)

Electromagnetic waves are transverse waves with different properties according to their different frequencies and wavelengths. Your task is to write an essay explaining how one type of electromagnetic waves or sound/ultrasound waves are used in an application. In other words, describe one application of waves in detail. You might choose to focus on:
Radio and UHF waves (radio and TV signals)
Microwaves (telecommunications, mobile phones, radar, cooking etc.)

This assignment will be assessed against the MYP Criterion D: Reflecting on the impacts of Science. Your essay needs to cover the following:
Describe an issue/problem that the application has solved
Explain how science is applied to this issue, i.e. how your application works
Discuss and evaluate how the scientific solution interacts with one of the following factors: social, economic, political, environmental, cultural or ethical or one of the UNs SDGs (see image below for details).Aim to list several arguments for opposing views.
Consistently apply scientific language to communicate understanding clearly and precisely
Document sources fully, following MLA9
Specific Requirements
Give your essay a specific title (can be in the form of a question).
Write between 700 – 1000 words, depending on the amount of diagrammatic information you include. Dont forget to include a word-count at the beginning of your essay.
At least five quality sources are expected plus sources for diagrams used. Ensure that you provide in-text citations and that you add sources to your diagrams.
