The United States has a long history with Native American tribes. This history has created a certain viewpoint for Americans on Native Americans. Views see them as peaceful people willing to help with Americans adjusting to their new home helping them to survive. Other views see them as equals and wanted to be allies with peace. Americans have many varied views on the Native American tribes but majority of them are of good relationships.
Native Americans have a troubled past with Americans. Yet they were able to have peace agreements with Americans. United States of America, and friendship re-established between the faid states on the one part, and all the Choctaw nation on the other part, fhall be universal; and the contracting parties fhall ufe their umoft endeavor to maintain the peace given as aforesaid, and friendship re-eftablifhed” (treaty; hopewell; Keowee; Seneca Old Town September 18, 1790). America respected the Choctaw and wanted to have friendship with them as their influence of their tribe was to be respected. If not war would break out and none would unscathed by it.
Not all Americans held the Native Americans in such a terrible view. Some saw the Natives as people who tried to have peace with them. Many Natives helped the Americans settle in to the country and achieve their dreams. Many Americans did agree that Natives werent savages but actual people with their own culture. The commiffioners plenipotentiary the Choctaw nation, do hereby acknowledge the tribes and town of faid nation, and the lands within the boundary allotted to the faid Indians, to and to hunt on, as mentioned in the third article to be under the protection of the United States of America (Treaty; Hopewell; Keowee; Seneca; Old Town; Benjamin Hawkins; Andrew Pickens, June 1 1876). Not everybody hated them and some were willing to let them live in America as well stated in this treaty. This treaty proved that the Americans held the Native American as equals as they were willing to sign a treaty with them like they would with their allies like France.
The United States of America respected the Native America tribe so much they sent a Military figure as representative for the United States of America for negotiations. Choctaw King, his Lady, and a Chickerfaw captain, in company with Captain John Woods, appointed fee the articlea of the treaty made at Hopewel Senaca, in flate of South Carolina, hv the representatives of their nations and the commiffioners of the Unites States, ratfied and made good (Philadelpha, June 19). Americans wanted good relations with the Natives since both could benefit from a mutual friendship. They sent a military representative to have good relations on both sides.
Americans overall saw the good in the Native Americans. They werent savages as they could hold treaties with one another and come to agreements. Many Americans saw respect in these tribes for the influence they hold and how becoming enemies would hurt both sides drastically. Americans respected them by sending someone of status to go and sign treaties and feast with. The United States saw Native Americans in a positive view.
