Mutual Care Map & Narrative

Please first make a mutual care map (in-class exercise during week 3).

You can create your own representation, but please follow the steps and find a way to make the different elements present in your map.

You will need to include this map with your journal entry submission. It can be a photo of a physical map or a digital map, up to you. You can mask the names or give nicknames to people on your map if you don’t want to use their name but rest assured that I will not share these maps (or any of your work!) without your explicit permission.

You can include graphics, images, or any other materials if you want.

Mutual Care Narrative

Write an essay reflecting on the following points. Most of these points were part of your guide to make the map. Now I would like you to reflect on your process and explain what you decided to do. This care journal essay should be about 4 pages, double spaced.

Include answers to these questions in your essay:

How did you pick people to include in your care map? Did you decide to not include certain people that you initially thought about? Who did you have no questions about including? Does that reflect different degrees of closeness or simply your living situation?
What are the values or principles that you practice with the different people in your care system? Do you practice different values with different people in your care system?
Do you recognize forms of radical care in your care system? (describe them)
What issues do you anticipate coming up in your care system, or have you seen come up before? For instance, have you seen or do you anticipate questions of inequity linked to gender, disability, race, sexuality, or socio-economic status to come up? Are there other types of issues that have or may come up?
How do you respond to those issues in ways that are reflective of your principles and values?
What do you think you can you do to anticipate issues of inequity?
Finally, what kind of nurturing practices to yourself or others do you cultivate on a daily basis? How are these nurturing practices connected to your community?
