In the last paragraph of the Introduction to his book, Frederic Laloux writes:
“In a broad generalization, it is safe to say that, in developed societies, Impulsive-Red Organizations persist only at the fringes of legal activity [and, I would add, in some small family-run businesses]. Conformist-Amber is still heavily present in government agencies, the military, religious organizations, and public school systems. Achievement-Orange is clearly the dominant paradigm of business corporations, from Wall Street to Main Street. Pluralistic-Green organizational practices are making increasing inroads, not only in the world of non-profits, but in the business sector as well.”
After reading the Introduction and Part One of our textbook, and after watching Frederic Laloux’s talk, and writing at least 300-400 words (required minimum length), post to the Discussion the answer to the following questions (20 points):
What kind of organization do you currently work in (if you are not working, you can consider your home as an organization): Red/Impulsive, Amber/Conformist, Orange/Achievement, Green/Pluralistic? What leads you to this conclusion? WHY do you feel that you work in a (insert color) organization? Share a few of the benefits (what do you like about your job?) of working in such an organization? What are a few of the drawbacks of working in such an organization? Be as detailed as you can be in answering/responding to the above questions/prompts.
