A couple of decades apart, William Morris and Adolf Loos examined the role design plays in society. Their arguments and their proposed solutions were different, though both thinkers linked aesthetic issues to larger societal problems, addressing the ethics of design and production, and, in particular, the role and responsibility of the creators.*
Summarize, explain and compare the two views.

Based on your analysis of Morriss and Looss views, how would you define the designers role and ethical responsibility in todays context? How does it compare to what Morris or Loos proposed?
* Neither Morris nor Loos used the word designer in todays sense. In fact, the use of terms such as artist, craftsman, architect, is central to the comparison of their views.
