Mapping Exercise Using ArcGIS

Students are required to conduct, interpret and visually present community response through spatial
maps.
The interpretation from the spatial analysis should reflect critical information that will aid in understanding the spatial
distribution of community values and areas of concern for conservation and management. The
interpretation of the maps should reflect the practical facts which is acquired through site visits and
literature review.
You are required to submit the mapping interpretation under the following categories:
4. Profile of the Study Area: Prepare and present a profile of the study area indicating
demographic characteristics and essential information relevant to the project. Make use of full
dataset from Maylands Peninsula, ABS and SEIFA index for visual interpretation and
determine meaningful distribution of respondents (where are they?) based on demographic
profile (age, socio-economic condition, household size etc.).
5. Diversity of POS: Present and interpret the spatial profile of the public open spaces in the
study area. This is a comparative mapping of POS based on community responses. It should
demonstrate the use-diversity of POS and their rating visually. Provide practical justifications
of your output.
6. Eco-system Services: Present and interpret spatial distribution of ecosystem services of the
POS perceived by the community. Provide practical justifications of your output and
determine conservation and management perspectives based on your output. Student should
apply multiple data layers to produce composite maps to understand the quality of POS.

**NOTE**
The Study Site is the suburb of Maylands In Perth, Western Australia. In terms of community response, a survey was conducted in the Maylands peninsula (which is a section next to the river of the suburb), I can provide you with community response data via excel tables. this then needs to be converted into maps using ArcGIS to showcase the above criteria^

The required file needs to be submitted as two a4 colour maps. and a 3rd page with about 500 words of map related text.
