1. Making death notifications is a difficult task requiring sensitivity and compassion. Research, identify, and discuss training that is available for first responders and investigators. How many training programs are there? Are there enough available? Do there need to be more programs? Do agencies make adequate use of these programs to train their staff?
2. Research, describe, and explain the type of information you need to obtain in every death investigation and who you want to obtain that information from.
3. Explain what information and/or records you may need to obtain from outside agencies, other than the records YOU produce (do not include witness interviews of Next of Kin or friends on scene). Why might these records or information be important and in what type of cases?
Please remember to address the discussions and assignments from the medicolegal death investigator (MDI) perspective and not the law enforcement perspective. I would prefer not to see direct quotes on the discussion. However, if it is necessary, please remember that the citation for direct quotes must include the page or paragraph number where the quote can be found and citation must immediately precede or follow the direct quote (sections 8.26, 8.27. 8.28 of the APA style manual). Please make sure your sources are credible and applicable. Foreign sources are fine for scientific principles but if the discussion is about administrative procedures, laws, or even customs, foreign sources may lead you astray.
