Leading Innovations in Education

Create a 20-30 slide PowerPoint presentation for a conference, presenting your process or technology innovation in the context of the conference theme, “Innovating in Education During Times of Rapid Change.” This is an opportunity for you to consolidate all of your learning in this course and to extend your thinking through a new scenario, allowing you to examine your issue and solution from multiple perspectives.

The field of education is evolving and so too must the role of leadership. One way to understand how this change is happening is to observe successful leaders in the field and study how they are newly applying the fundamentals of leadership. Of course, it helps to have a good grounding in the fundamental skills of leadership so you can recognize new and innovative ways of leading.

A leader’s job is a busy one, and there are usually more tasks than time. When you complete one project, what is your natural reaction? Start the next project and move forward. What if you discovered there was a missed opportunity for learning in that approach? The end of a project or task should signal a time of self-reflection. Take notes and record lessons learned. Use a journal to record your thoughts for a few minutes or type your notes in an electronic document. Whatever method you use, take the time to learn and you will likely be surprised at the outcome. An effective wrap-up will lead to an even more effective start on the next task or project.

Which leadership style or styles fit you best? What will serve your career goals best?

How often do you engage in work-related introspection?
