Is it useful in terms of understanding some important aspect of the frontier?

(1). Very briefly lay out the plot. [Keep this brief since this is not a book report]. (2). Choose one aspect of the novel that you find most interesting, or that you think tells us something useful about the frontier. This could be a plot-line, a character, a relationship between characters, the physical setting, dialogue, symbolism or whatever you find important and interesting. (3). Give a brief assessment of the overall quality of the novel. Is it worth reading? Is it useful in terms of understanding some important aspect of the frontier?
