Dual Enrollment classes, which are also called dual credit classes or early college high schools, have become very popular. In fact, all El Paso high schools offer dual credit classes, and El Paso, Texas, will soon be home to at least nine early college high schools and counting. Advocates of dual-enrollment programs argue that exposing students to collegiate learning while in high school improves their chances of success in college and accelerates their attainment of a postsecondary degree. Skeptics of dual-enrollment, however, question whether some high school students are emotionally and socially ready for college, whether these so-called early college courses are actually college level, and whether the dual-credit program is fair to those who are not in the program. In an essay, explain whether early college courses are, in the long run, beneficial or harmful.
