In a 2018 to 2022 newspaper or popular magazine, track down a feature length article (at least 8 paragraphs or 3 pages) dealing with an archaeological discovery or controversy. Academic talks focused on archaeology, by an archaeologist qualify as current events and can be written up in the same way.
Write a summary of the article/talk including 1) a paragraph discussing the main point presented, and 2) a second paragraph critically (i.e., from your perspective – not necessarily negative) evaluating the claims made. In the case of an article, try to figure out why the article was published when it was, and evaluate the significance of the claims made in it. Be sure to include the newspaper or magazine name, its date of issue, and the title and author of the article. Following are good places to look:
