Papers should be between 6-8 pages in length. THIS INCLUDES THE TITLE PAGE AND REFERENCE PAGE. YOU DO NOT INCLUDE AN ABSTRACT FOR THIS PAPER. Goals of the assignment are to demonstrate that you can create a paper based on primary and secondary sources and synthesize this material to present a cohesive answer to a question.
The final paper requires a minimum of 2 primary sources and 3 secondary sources. (Provided.)
Papers do need to have a title page. However, footnotes are not required. Instead, students need to use pagination citation throughout their papers to show how and where they used their sources. ***AT LEAST 8 IN-TEXT CITATIONS MINIMUM!***
Example: The War of 1812 was started by America. (Kucsan, 2009) or (the authors last name). Now if you are using more than one article by the same author then you need to put in the title of the articlesuch as (Kucsan, 2009, Consequences of the War of 1812). If you are using 2 different works with authors of the same last name then do the following; (Kucsan, P, 2009) Just put in the first initial.
Finally, remember that all papers need an introduction, body, and conclusion. Every essay needs a thesis statement and the last page of your assignment should be a reference page where you will provide your complete references in APA.
RUBRIC:
Topic, ideas, and argument are clearly stated for the intended audience. Shows synthesis of topic. Provides appropriate background information/defines important elements and concepts essential to understanding the topic.
Clearly states purpose of paper/research.
Indicates main points to be covered. Essay includes introduction, thesis, body paragraphs, and concluding paragraph. Paper has a natural and logical flow in terms of how student uses sources and organizes their presentation. Writing is clear and precise with no excess or padded portions.
Analysis is developed to “show,” that is, to be concrete and scenic with narrative rather than just “tell” with abstract exposition. Concrete examples, quotations, anecdotes, descriptions are fully developed in effective proportion to support the ideas of the assignment.
Writing uses Standard Edited American English. Language and diction are appropriate to audience. Follows rules for grammar, spelling and usage. Writing has a polished and elegant style. APA formatting is present to include a title page, introduction, and conclusion with references as required by the assignment.
