How to write a quality college essay

Prompt: In a well-organized essay with specific detail, explain how one creates a quality college-level essay.

You may wish to consider:

What elements or steps go into the completion of a college-level essay?
How do you begin? How do you end?
Where is a thesis statement to be included–and why is it important?
How do topic sentences help to organize your writing? How do they relate to the thesis?
What is the best way to proofread your essay?
What is the most important part of the process?
How and why is specific detail essential?
Length: Five paragraphs, each of which are eight to twelve sentences long.

Quotes: You must have at least one quote in each of the body paragraphs as well as a “famous quote” in either the first or last paragraph.

Works Cited: Required.

Point of view: You MAY NOT use the “I” or “you” point of view. Rather, you should write objectively and when necessary use “the student” or “the writer.”

RUBRIC

Forty percent (40%) of your grade will come from mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation, MLA formatting, usage).

Sixty percent (60%) of your grade will come from content (voice, variety, organization, strength of thesis, corresponding topic sentences, outstanding title, specific detail, quotes).
