Diary
Social psychology is everywhere. It is evident in your day-to-day life. This assessment is designed to get
you to think about how social psychological phenomena are all around you each day.
Diary details
Keep a 10-day diary where you state at least one event that happened that day, and relate that event
back to social psychology. Do not repeat the same event or social psychological
concept/theory/effect/etc.
Start your diary by describing the event. It should be clear what happened, but a sentence or two might
be sufficient. Then state how it is relevant to social psychology (e.g., is it consistent with a theory, effect,
etc.). This doesn’t have to be long; a sentence or two is most likely fine.
Here is an example to help illustrate what you are supposed to do. I only show one day in the example,
but you will have 10 days.
____________________________
Day 1: I went online to buy some clothes, and I saw several advertisements that were trying to persuade
me to buy their products (e.g., a celebrity drinking coke). This is relevant to social psychology because
using celebrities to sell products is an attempt to persuade me to buy the products. Persuasion is a
major topic within the field of social psychology.

You should record your diary in a similar format that you see above. When you submit your assessment,
you will be asked to copy and paste your responses into a Moodle “quiz”. It is not a quiz, but rather an
easy way to store your responses and mark them. You will not submit a Word or PDF document, but
rather copy and paste your responses.
Here is what you will be marked on:
Meeting the minimum guidelines stated above (e.g., keep diary for 10 days, not repeating events or
social psychological phenomena, state how it is relevant, etc.)
