How have transcultural flows shaped the form, style and reception of your chosen case study?

For your essay, you should select one of the three prompts below, and choose an Asian pop cultural case study/ies to analyse in order to develop a focus and argument in response to the prompts. Your essays topic should thus be refined upon selecting your case study/ies: you must have the case study/ies and final topic approved by your tutor by the end of week 10 at the latest.

How have transcultural flows shaped the form, style and reception of your chosen case study?
How has your chosen case study been shaped by local cultural contexts, and how has this regional cultural identity been received and/or interpreted in the West?

Compare and contrast an Asian pop cultural product/genre/text/phenomenon and its appropriation for Western audiences (for instance, Hollywood remakes of Asian films). How does the transnational exchange of genres/cultural practices/styles operate, and how does this exchange impact upon the way your case study/ies are distributed and received?

This is a traditional academic research essay, assessed equally on the quality of:

research from academic, peer reviewed, sources (including required readings but also going beyond them), and analysis of your chosen case study
structure and clarity of communication (including appropriate referencing)

Please message me prior to have your subject approved. You should aim to cover something like a genre of films, one specific film, a body of work by an asian director, music genres, and other asian pop culture artefacts. I would also like to recommend looking at something like Shibari, which is what I initially was going to write about. if you decide to look at Shibari, the japanese rope tying art form (sexual/art practice) it needs to be discussed from a pop culture lense and answer the questions as listed in the description.
