How does your chosen author speak specifically to his or her time and place? Even though these classic books are “for the ages” and still relevant today, the goal of this essay is to understand the author’s audience at the time.
To organize this essay, you might read between the lines of the book you have chosen and identify who the cultural audience(s) is/are (gender, class, nationality, race, status, etc., etc.; be as thorough as you can!). Thus, define or describe the cultural audience(s), using research sources to support you. Then explain how three or four points from the text address certain needs of that cultural audience.
