How do the authors we’ve read describe or play with either ideals of masculinity or femininity? (Please choose only one of these.) Compare and/or contrast between 1) one or two poems we have studied, 2) Antigone, and 3) the selections from the 1001 Nights we read. How do the characters engage with and/or subvert (i.e. undermine the power of) either societal ideals/stereotypes of femininity (what it means to be a “woman”) or masculinity ( what it means to be a “man”). Specifically, which characters embody these ideals or subversions, and how? Write an essay of approximately 800-1000 words, and don’t forget to write about 1001 Nights, Antigone, and a poem or two from the selection from the first unit. You must use quotations and format your essay according to the guidelines provided earlier.
