Essay 1: How do gender stereotypes affect us? (15%)
Julia Serano draws from her own experiences of gender norms and stereotypes, including her experience as a transsexual woman who once navigated the world as male, in her argument about how predatory gender stereotypes help fuel rape culture. Write an essay in which you make an argument about the effect of a particular gender stereotype and what we should do about it. You can respond to or extend Seranos argument about nice guys, or pick a different gender stereotype. Your essay should use specific ideas and quotes from Serano as evidence to help you think about the effects of gender stereotypes, and should also incorporate your own experiences as evidence, as Serano does.
