How did the Progressive Era pave the way for further changes in the federal government’s response?

They wanted to ensure the federal government was accountable to improve the lives of Americans through a variety of means such as food safety, increased access to education, and work place safety. Given the events of this period, many internal and external forces further influenced America (including the First World War). Consider how Americans were understanding their role within the world following that conflict. President Roosevelt gave his four freedoms speech as he outlined the freedoms all people should have. Consider if his freedoms also coincide with reforms and the growing role of the federal government in American society.
