This will be a chapter on the history of the term entrepreneur, from its origins in the world to the early 1800s in America and how the term and meaning developed. It will look at the various words used in Colonial America through the age of the Early American Republic that meant Entrepreneur. These words include those such as Undertakers, Adventurers, Enterprisers, and Speculators. The paper should ultimately develop the idea of how the agrarians in Colonial and Early America were early American Entrepreneurs and explain that fact in period context with period source material that reveals it (I.e. primary source material such as pamphlets published in the era). This chapter will contain quite a bit of etymological discussion points, but it is also a historical paper. So, the use of facts and discussions pertaining to individuals in Colonial and Early American History that were identified as Undertakers, Adventurers, Enterprisers, and Speculatocixrs will add to the overarching discussion.
