This is a library research paper which should focus on a particular disease entity (AIDS/HIV). You are to examine how diverse populations from racial, ethnic, and culturally dominant and non-dominant groups are differently affected by the disease or health problem and explore whether and how disparities are present in access to high quality care. A discussion of the social work role in working with this population should also be included.
{Culture is broadly defined as including sexual preference, gender and gender identity, age and religious groups. Dominant groups are those who have power and privilege in society and non-dominant groups are those who do not.}

The paper should address the following:
1. The specific problem or disease that you are studyingdescribe it completely and explain your interest.
2. Determine where people with this medical problem or disease receive their care and whether and what disparities in care and access to quality care exist for dominant and non-dominant populations.
3. Explore and discuss:
Known health beliefs and health practices of the population and how their group/culture views the problem.
How, if and where clients seek care for the problem or disease in Western and non-Western or traditional medicine and what interferes with adherence with treatment recommendations.
Ways in which the patient and family/caregiver system are impacted by the disease/problem.
Ways in which patient and family/caregiver systems cope with the disease or problem.
How the health care system of this country views this problem and the people affected by it.
The social work role in working with this population.
4. Based on the above analysis, discuss the role of the social worker in addressing these potential disparities and differences on the individual level (e.g. modifying intervention strategies), institutional level (e.g. addressing policies regarding care) and functioning as an advocate for change, toward providing culturally competent care.
