I am asking for a REVISION of original paper. Original paper was on Comparing the theme of madness between books, “Don Quixote” and “Diary of a Madman”. 6-8 pages. I have attached the original paper, and below is feedback to incorporate into the revision of this paper.
FEEDBACK FROM ORIGINAL PAPER:
At the end of your paper you seem to be developing a contrast between DQ and Prop. for the first time — this should be coming earlier, indeed at the opening of your paper, in which it is not always clear what your argument is. For ex. on P. 4-5 your discussion is coming dangerously close to plot summary for over a page here — and it is not clear what you are arguing. While you begin with some very interesting ideas about the Gogol piece, these must be executed in comparison with DQ — ie you must have a comparative thesis, which is different from (and more than) having interesting things to say about both of these works. So this would be my main suggestion for you in Revision if you choose to make this paper your Revision paper. I have other comments for you below, including “line” or margin comments on the paper and some areas that need your attention, including Use of Quotations, and some Clarity issues (see below for each).
Line Notes:
Introductions: you should save the argument’s details and supporting examples for the paper rather than putting them in the intro paragraph
p. 1-2 Show, do not just state, what “madness” means in the novel of DQ. Also Italicize the novel so that we know when you are talking about it and when you are referring to the character, DQ.
Doesn’t DQ leave town already on the quest to become a knight, ie not after a “change in perspective”?
p. 3 explain relevance of this moment, the use of the narrator’s “complicated, recurring style”? Unclear how this is working in your own narrative/argument
Use of Quotations:
p. 5 you must set up this quotation (“And do you know..”)– who is speaking to whom?
Clarity:
p. 1 “Gogol compares” — he writes, you compare (word choice)
p. 3 same as above: the narrator doe snot “analyze” differences — he shows them, perhaps; we do that analysis
