Case Analysis Instructions
The quarter we will analyze the Greg James/Sun Microsystems case. Greg’s global team failed to respond to the prolonged system outage suffered by a major client. In this course, you have learned a variety of concepts that can help you analyze the situation, reach conclusions, and make recommendations. Use this information to help Greg manage the relationships on his team across national, geographical, and cultural boundaries.
Throughout the case analysis, please use a combination of evidence from the case and course material to make your points. Your report should reflect our course building internal and community stakeholder relationships. If you make assumptions, you must back them up with evidence from the case or class material
The paper will be broken up into the following sections:
Situation analysis. In this section, summarize your investigation of the situation/events. The situation analysis is your diagnosis of the issues relevant to the state of the relationship between Greg James and critical team members. Your analysis diagnosis must draw on course material.
Stakeholder analysis. In this section, identify the key stakeholders in the case and describe and evaluate their differing perspectives and interests. (Limit this discussion to no more than essential three stakeholders.) What bearing do these stakeholders have on the situation? Your stakeholder analysis must draw on course material
Action plan. Based on your diagnosis of the case, create options for Greg James. Base your recommendations on course material (including lecture notes and readings).
Evaluation of consequences. This section should provide a description and analysis of the expected results from implementing the action plan you described above. Your assessment of consequences should draw on course material.
Connecting stakeholder interests. Answer the following questions in this section.
What are the potential impacts of a situation like this on the customer-organization relationship? What do you suspect are potential impacts on the relationship between team members and the organization? Other team members and Greg?
Presenting the Assignment:
Assignment Length. Imagine that you are submitting your completed assignment to your supervisor because this happened at your workplace. Practice writing succinctly by limiting your analysis to 6 double spaced pages. (The page limit does not include graphs, tables, charts, appendices, etc.)
Assignment Format. Please use Times New Roman, 12 point font, 1-inch margins, double spaced.
Headings. Please use the outline above (situation analysis, stakeholder analysis, action plan, etc.) to create headings and provide structure to your paper.
Assignment Clarity. A case analysis is not a free form assignment. Therefore, you have considered word choices carefully. Your grammar is reflective of your status as a graduate business student. You have edited the paper and removed sentences and sections that are not value-added. You used headings and topic sentences to aid your reader. Your essay is free of jargon. In other words, the assignment is something that would prove useful to others even people who are not members of our class.
The references to use can only be of the ones I provide, no outside references can be used. When drafting the action plan, list out the action items and cite the reference of where the recommendation comes from.
