Each student will submit a formal paper on the case application which they presented in
class. Based on a particular theoretical approach and including: discussion of major points of
the theory, assessment, culturally sensitive treatment plan, discussion of applicable
techniques, evaluation of intervention effectiveness, and a discussion of the worker
competencies needed for this application.
The paper must include the following elements:
1. The history and development of the treatment approach
2. The central ideas of the treatment approach
3. An assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the approach for application to
social work family and settings, with differential applications highlighted
4. An assessment of the case/family system
5. A discussion of the goals and evaluation of expected outcomes from this
treatment approach with this family system
6. A description of the intervention techniques used in or proposed for the treatment
approach with this family system
7. Ethical issues implicit in the approach or its application in practice
8. Application of the professional use of self-using this modality with this family
system
9. 6-8 pages in length
