Final Challenge Exam: This exam consists of 3 prompts. You are expected to answer ALL 3 PROMPTS. There are page limits for each prompt. Plan your writing strategically to convey the important things you learned in the course for each prompt. MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT YOU HAVE READ OVER THE RUBRIC FOR THIS EXAM CAREFULLY BEFORE COMPOSING YOUR RESPONSE!
Challenge Prompt #1: Considering all you learned about physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development in this course, imagine that you are in charge of planning a day in the life of a 6-year-old child. Your goal is to describe a typical day that would promote optimal development and this day needs to take place in the child’s home. Over a 24-hour period of time, describe what the child would be doing and WHY you believe these things will promote optimal development. Make sure you are addressing all domains of development and using vocabulary words that you have learned in this course where they fit into the context. The suggested length for this prompt is 2-3 pages, double-spaced.
Challenge Prompt #2: During this course, we have returned repeatedly to the nature-nurture controversy that we first encountered in Chapter 1 of the textbook. Considering all that we have learned, compose a response that is designed to persuade your instructor of your position on whether nature or nurture wins as the most influential. Your response needs to include relevant vocabulary from the course, references to content viewed or read for the course, and your well-reasoned thoughts on the topic. Your references to course materials DO NOT need to follow an official citation format. Mentioning the author and article, TED Talk, or video documentary title is sufficient. Please Note: I am not expecting your reasoning to agree with mine. What I AM expecting is that your reasoning is backed up by information we learned in this class. The suggested length for this prompt is 1-2 pages, double-spaced.
Challenge Prompt #3: Authentic play was a topic that was revisited several times in this class. Give your definition of authentic play, then compose a response about the importance of authentic play for all domains of child development to a parent who is concerned that his/her child is just playing. Use relevant vocabulary words and refer to course materials as you make your argument for the value of authentic play for all domains of child development. The suggested length for this prompt is 1-2 pages, double-spaced
